Maruti Suzuki XL6 come with luxury interior features, Price is low

Maruti Suzuki XL6: The XL6 by Maruti Suzuki is one of a kind in the Indian MPV market. On that solid Ertiga foundation, the XL6 aims to raise the game with an even nicer experience.

The XL6 has caught the fancy of urban families by not only offering SUV-esqe styling, the second row captain seats and the peace of mind of Maruti’s service network but also a sense of comfort, space and modern features in a single practical package.

Picanto with Attitude (SUV-style)

The XL6, in a first look at it, obviously is a huge differentiation from the Ertiga. At the front there’s a distinctive grille, four-LED headlamp setup and a raised bonnet, all contributing to a more SUV vibe.

The smoked-black treatment across the body/ roof rails/ dual-tone alloy wheels make it look more butch.

The increased ground clearance and broad stance also add to its presence, and should prove attractive for buyers who wants the space of an MPV and the look of an SUV.

It finds a winning line between function and aesthetic, but it’s not in your face.

Premium and Comfortable Cabin

Get inside the XL6 and this premium shift is greatly felt. Classy and modern is the feel of a all-black interior with silver accents.

And then there is the 6-seater arrangement which, of course, is the show stopper of the two with captain seats in the middle row which bring a lot of comfort and convenience, especially for families travelling with elderly passengers or kids.

The dashboard, as in the Ertiga, shares the same design but gets higher quality materials and paint finish.

The 7-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment system offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus top-spec models get connected car tech, cruise control and automatic climate control.

The third-row is decently sized and useable for small distances for adults but can also do some longer interstate trips with catalysty kids.

Boot space is tight with all seats up, but a fold of the third row is enough to cater for a few bags of shopping or a weekend’s worth of luggage.

Engine and Driving Experience

The XL6 is hauled by a 1.5-litre K15C petrol mill equipped with Smart Hybrid technology. It makes 103 PS and 137 Nm and comes with the 5-speed manual and 6-speed auto gearbox options.

The tech also assists in a smoother start-stop function, and it slightly helps with fuel economy.

Bonus: the engine is designed for comfort-not all-out performance-and provides a smooth, relatively hushed ride, particularly around town.

The auto makes driving around town a hassle-free affair and the manual is slick and light.

The XL6’s ride is one of its highlights. For the most part, the suspension smothers road irregularities with ease, and long trips won’t wear you down.

The steering is easy and light to manage in the city traffic, if not particularly communicative at speed.

Mileage and Practicality

Efficiency One of the biggest selling points of the XL6 is numerically very efficient.

The Smart Hybrid tech has one of the best in segment mileage of approximately 20.27 km/l (manual) and 20.97 km/l (automatic) which is great for a 6 seater MPV.

The XL6 is plenty spacious, offers good fuel efficiency and is frugal to maintain – all of which combine to tilt the scales in its favour in the practicality stakes.

It is also advantage with Maruti Suzuki’s extensive service network and cost effective spares, with easy repairablity over the years.

Safety Features

The safety basics such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP with hill hold, ISOFIX mounts and rear parking camera are standard on the XL6.

Higher variants bring four airbags as well as other features like a tyre pressure monitor and electronic stability control, offering reassurance to family buyers.
